Cute As A Cupcake
My daughter came home from a Girl Scout Daisies “sleepover”-themed movie night talking about the cutest cupcakes they made. Each one featured a sleeping “girl” with a cookie head on a marshmallow pillow, tucked into a candy blanket. They had gobbled up all the cupcakes by the time I picked her up so I didn’t get the chance to see one. So months later, still intrigued, I found the recipe and we made them as a trial run for our next slumber party. Guaranteed, they will be a hit!

I thought my 7-year-old would be most interested in recreating the cupcakes, but it turned out to be a smash hit with tween big brother and sister as well. We had a ton of fun creating the little slumbering cuties atop the cupcakes with different hair styles and blanket colors and seeing their personalities come to life.

We made them just before the holidays and brought them from house to house. Our hostesses and their guests were just as in awe of our creations as we were! The toughest part was eating them, when the kids wished they could cuddle up for the night alongside them.

Here’s what you need:
A batch of plain cupcakes baked from any cake mix
White icing
Chocolate icing
Food coloring (optional for different hair colors)
Airheads
Jelly beans
Mini vanilla wafer cookies
Red heart sprinkles (usually comes in Valentine’s sprinkles)
Marshmallows

Directions:
1. Ice cupcake liberally. Cut one marshmallow in half and stick it on as the pillow and stick the other one below it as the body.
2. Position two matching jellybeans at the bottom of the body below the marshmallow as feet.
3. Put a dab of icing under a mini vanilla wafer and position it on the marshmallow “pillow.”
4. Use a toothpick to draw eyes using chocolate icing.
5. Dab icing on a heart sprinkle and place it on the wafer as a mouth.
6. Pipe or gently spread icing onto the wafer for hair (you can create many colors by adding food color to vanilla frosting, from blonde to pink and blue, and chocolate frosting makes a great brunette!)
7. Line up two Airheads candies. Microwave 15 seconds to soften. Roll out smooth using a rolling pin.
8. Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears to cut out a small blanket. Position on top of the cupcake, covering the marshmallow “body” and leaving the head on feet showing.
