If your kid is as active as Suzy's, you occasionally need to reel them in with something cool. How about building a bird house? Henceforth our Celebrate Green founders' ideas on making it worthwhile and educational....
Unique , "green" bird houses for outdoor use can be crafted from almost any weather resistant material, (or any material that can be made weather resistant).
If you are creating a decorative (not intended for use by real feathered friends) house, no rules apply! However, if you hope to create functional aviary abodes, make sure that the house has the following characteristics:
Fully enclosed (minus the opening)
Ample drainage and ventilation
A hole (entryway) the correct size for the bird you hope to attract and that lives in your area.
What can a bird house be made from? The sky's the limit. Here are some ideas to get you going:
Old boot
Hat
Pot with a lid
Milk carton
2 Liter plastic soda bottle
Purse
Old wood and roof tiles
