To get Chops or not ?
Taste and Choice make a good value

The Pomona Chop House located in Pacesetter Park shopping center on 202 in Pomona NY is a family restaurant who's name belies the great choice and value the restaurant is.  Suzy recently went there with her hubby and he has so graciously intemingled his comments with hers.

Upon walking in we were immediately struck by the homey and warm feeling of the space, lighting, and décor.  Modern, in deep colored woods and highlighted by tasteful ambient light. We were cheerfully greeted at the front door and told that there was a 45 min wait in the main dining room but we were welcome to sit in the bar area immediately, which we opted for. It's important to note that they do not take reservations for parties under 5.

The menu was surprisingly large. we expected a much smaller selection given the name of the restaurant. But alas, the menu offered a wide selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees. Our choices were the French Onion Soup and Coconut shrimp as apps and the Roquefort Steak & BBQ combo of chicken and ribs as our entrees.

The onion soup was served in classic style with slightly well done cheese atop a well balanced soup with very sweet onions. The Roquefort Steak was served perfectly rare with a great balance of tangy Roquefort and sweet caramelized onions, accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes.   The coconut shrimp was just ok as Suzy is somewhat of a connoisseur with that particular dish and thought she made it at home much better, but the raspberry dipping sauce was yummy at least.  The BBQ combo was enough for 2 people and the rib meat fell off the bones.  The homemade cornbread was just ok as was the coleslaw, but the rice was good.  At 19.95 these were both a lot of food, done well, making it a great value.  Dessert was an apple crisp with ice cream and homemade cannoli, both of which were excellent.

Overall we found The Pomona Chop house with it's " something for everyone" menu, large portions of well done cuisine and modern and inviting atmosphere a great value for both families and dates alike.

Kids eat FREE on Sundays through March with a paying adult entree and they have a killer 3 course early bird special Sunday - Thursday with a ton of great selections to choose from for under $15
