Designing Women
Capitalizing on their retail experience, Hélène Byrnes and Susanne D'Ariano will co-host Rye Women’s Club Children’s Philanthropy 7th Annual Designing Women on May 4th at The Apawamis Club located in Rye.  Hélène and Susanne have grown the event over the past several years by having a keen eye for selecting the right vendors to match their guests’ fashion preferences.

Planning for next year’s event begins the day after Designing Women is complete.  Gathering feedback from the vendors and attendees, the committee determines what and who worked.  Hélène and Susanne “shop” new vendors from September through December by visiting shows in Westchester, Connecticut, Long Island and NYC.  They evaluate each vendor in a show environment to see how much traffic each one brings, how they merchandise their items and most importantly, how they interact with customers.  The formal selection process begins in early January as preparation for the event begins.

This year the team is excited to feature the largest selection of vendors and merchandise ever.  Several new vendors were added to the program this year including Byron NY (upscale handbags), Adrienne Lee's floral arrangements and Triple Sweet, featuring Dogeared Jewelry.  Accessories, handbags, vintage jewelry, gifts, sweets and stationary are just some of the items available just in time for Mother’s Day gift shopping!  And, not to forget dear ol' Dad or that special graduate, there will be plenty of items for them including key fobs, monogrammed cutting boards in time for the grilling season, one-of-a-kind vintage maps along with monogrammed jewelry and a variety of dorm accessories.

Not only is the event fun because who doesn’t love an afternoon of shopping, but Designing Women of Rye is truly a "Shop for a Cause" with the help of The Woman's Club of Rye, Children's Philanthropy.  This group of hard working ladies is a volunteer organization with approximately 50 members whose focus is to make a difference in the lives of the youth in Rye.   Designing Women is just one of the many fundraisers the group hosts each year to support Rye children.  Other events include the Fall Family Portraits at the Rye Nature Center or Rye Town Park as well as the annual Rug Sale in November, just in time for holiday decorating.  The Children’s Philanthropy organizes these events to benefit many local organizations and generates much enthusiasm from the planning team and the community.  Proceeds will be distributed to several organizations including the Rye Arts Center, Rye Youth Council, Rye Nature Center, Kids' S.P.A.C.E. and Rye Recreation.  They distribute Thanksgiving grocery gift cards and holiday presents to the less fortunate in the community.  In addition, Children’s Philanthropy will once again present two high school seniors with awards based on the student’s community service and their desire to make a difference in the lives of the children in Rye and beyond.

So be part of a great event that will impact the youth of our community!
