Home-Made Bites

Indulge the ones you love this Valentine’s Day with a few delicious home-made bites. Try these simple and delicious recipes from Whole Foods.  Craft one or both of these low calorie/diet-friendly nibblers for the big day and show them what love is all about:

Banana Nice Cream
Easy as 1-2-3, this creamy, sweet and cool snack or dessert proves that added sugar and oil are not always necessary to satisfy your cravings.
Keep some peeled bananas in your freezer so they'll be ready when you are.

Ingredients
1 (10-ounce) package frozen EARTH University Banana Chunks, or 2 bananas, sliced and frozen
1 cup unsweetened soymilk
2 tablespoons smooth almond butter or peanut butter
Method
-Put bananas, soymilk and almond butter into a blender.
-Purée, turning off the motor and stirring the mixture two or three times, until smooth and creamy.
-Pour into two bowls and serve.

Cocoa-Oat Truffles
Combine cocoa, oats, dates, almond butter and spices to make these naturally sweet treats. Our Health Starts Here recipes celebrate naturally flavorful whole foods with no extracted oils or refined sweeteners.

Ingredients
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup finely chopped pitted dates
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, divided
1/2 cup almond butter
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Pinch ground nutmeg
Pinch ground cinnamon
Method

Place oats in the bowl of a food processor and process until finely ground. Add dates, 2 tablespoons cocoa, almond butter, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon and process until finely ground and sticking together. Place remaining cocoa powder in a shallow bowl. Roll truffle mixture into balls about 2 teaspoons each, pressing firmly for mixture to stick together. Roll truffles in cocoa powder and chill until ready to serve
