Get Organized- Laundry Basics
Monday, May 24, 2010

If your house is busy like mine with kids, a husband and multiple pets you just might view laundry as a monumental task that never seems to get organized. I am here to tell you it is possible to tackle the piles and organize the clothes when everyone pitches in.
Start by assigning every member of the household a colored laundry basket for their items to be washed. Choose a favorite color for your kids and husband. If space is an issue than have the adults share one basket and the kids another.
There are many fun colorful products on the market today that can help and actually encourage your kids to pitch in and get those dirty clothes off the floor. Check out some of the bright colorful baskets at Target, Ikea, The Container Store or Bed Bath and Beyond.
Having individual baskets for family members has it advantages:
•The kids can throw soiled clothes, towels and bedding into their hamper and tote it to the laundry room on their designated wash day. Your husband can do the same (he can!)
•It isn’t necessary to do all laundry on the same day.
•Each family member gets all their clean laundry on their day – no sorting for separate rooms.
•The kids pitch in by delivering their laundry and putting away their folded clothes.
This is a good lesson in responsibility for children. We all want our kids to learn basic life skills and why not start with laundry basics!
