Galpals, if you’re looking for an easy, breezy, weekend getaway, then Suzy’s found just the spot for you. The Orchard Street Inn in Stonington, CT is just a 90-minute, no toll drive up the coast from Westport. Never heard of it? Suzy hadn’t either, until recently, when a friend let her in on this little coastal gem of a secret.
When you arrive at the Orchard Street Inn, you step out of the car onto a sweet and sleepy street, just steps from the water. You are greeted by the soft smell of ocean air and the palpable feeling if a slower, more manageable pace of life.
Dick Sattler, the Innkeeper, welcomed Suzy with a friendly handshake. Suzy’s room was a charming studio apartment, adjacent to the main house and around the corner from a common deck where guests can enjoy a generous, made-to-order breakfast, or just steal some relaxing moments in the sun.
Suzy stepped through the gorgeous, honey-colored wood Dutch door to her room, and emerged into a cozy, sun-filled space. Windows on all sides, it's the sort of room that begs for you to take an afternoon nap on the large and cozy bed, nestled in the gentle cross breeze, the sound of the wind tickling the marsh grasses below.
No details are overlooked at the Orchard Street Inn, and Dick is clearly dedicated to making you feel welcome, right down to his recommendations for local hospitality. Hop on one of the Orchard Street Inn’s bicycles and explore the quaint New England Main Street shops and eateries. Or, go just a bit further afield, and head to the Saltwater Vineyard. The vineyard runs along the water and offers breathtaking views of vines against the backdrop of the waters of the Sound. Taste locally grown and bottled wines from the spectacular vista of the former airplane hanger turned tasting and event space. Like Orchard Street, Saltwater Vineyard’s hospitality is second to none.
