Movie Screening in Wilton

"Canvas" starring Joe Pantoliano (left)

The Wilton office of Prudential Connecticut Realty will provide residents with an opportunity next week to screen the film "Canvas", starring Wilton resident and Emmy Award-winning actor Joe Pantoliano, and Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden.

The fundraising event, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 10, will begin with a reception and light supper from 6 to 7 PM.

The screening will then take place at the Bowtie Theatre at 21 River Road from 7:30 to 9 PM. Following the film, actor Joey Pantoliano and director Joe Greco will be on-site from 9 to 9:30 to answer questions about the film.

Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased at Prudential Connecticut Realty at 101 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization that provides activities for children who are undergoing cancer treatments. Children from the area who are helped by the Sunshine Kids are being treated in hospitals, including the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Additionally, the fundraising event will benefit No Kidding, Me Too, a nonprofit organization comprised of entertainment industry members united in an effort to educate Americans about the epidemic related to mental illness in all forms.

Officially opening in theaters on October 12, "Canvas" explores mental illness through the eyes of a child as he learns to cope with his schizophrenic mother. The depiction of mental illness and its effects on a family were inspired by the filmmaker's own childhood. The topic is addressed with a surprisingly uplifting and sometimes even humorous tone that illustrates how from tragedy springs hope, growth and understanding.
