Spring Fashion LOVES Black and White – so do we!
By Jennifer Bakken
I couldn't be more excited to share with all of you that black and white is indeed again a hot "trend" for spring, and here are some reasons why that couldn't make me happier:
•It never goes out of style; period. I don't know about you, l but I have been buying black and white pieces all my life. I'm not sure why designers even call this a "trend" as I find an investment in a B&W–anything, is a "no-brainer" as I know if it's carefully chosen I'll be wearing it for years to come.
•B&W apparel and accessories go with everything – and by everything, I mean it. B&W is the perfect base for any "splash" of color from primary to pastels. The color combination also acts as the perfect "pop" to any solid, bright or muted, ensemble.
•You can wear the B&W trend anywhere. I can feel as confident wearing my Diane Von Furstenberg B&W floral dress to work as I do wearing it out for dinner. B&W works any time of day, any season, any occasion, and you can't say about many fashion "trends".
•Black and White looks fantastic on any woman at any age. This is color combination that I would feel as comfortable suggesting to my 65 year-old clients as I would to the 25 year- olds, and every age in between. It's all about the style of the pieces you choose within this color story that will steer it a little younger or a little more mature.
•Nearly every designer creates signature pieces in B&W. This is a reason why I also feel very confidant suggesting this as a trend to invest in. Whether you have higher-end tastes or if you're more bargain-conscious, nobody is excluded from this trend. And if you're like me you're probably a little of both which works perfectly; invest in the classic B&W staples and have fun mixing in the inexpensive "of the moment" B&W styles.
Here are a few of my favorite B&W buys I've seen this season:

Diane von Furstenberg, Staedtler Jacket in Black & White, $595 at www.dvf.com

Banana Republic, Stitched Trench Coat in White, $198 (on sale now for $109.99) at www.bananarepublic.com

Giuseppe Zanotti, Zebra Pump, $550 at www.piperlime.com

Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Mathilda Sleeveless Color-Block Dress, $144, www.macys.com

Thakoon for Target, Shibori Print Skirt, $26.99, www.target.com
