Snacks for School
It's Back-to-School time which means packing snacks to keep the kids going throughout the day.  Suzy asked some of her galpals for some of their favorite healthy snacks.  If you have a favorite - Tell Suzy.

Make Your Own "Chips"
Purchase whole wheat pitas, cut them down the middle (into two full rounds), then cut the rounds into small triangles (8 or so per round). You can coat lightly with olive oil, season to taste (could be lightly salted or for a sweet treat you could use cinnamon and a natural sweetener like xylitol). They are cheaper and healthier than any chip you could buy and can be used with dips, salsa, or on their own.

Quesadillas using whole grain tortillas.
You can put your cheese and/or chicken in there of course, but you can also hide some green veggies inside, possibly pureeing with your salsa if necessary to better camouflage them. Even though they won't be warm, kids don't mind.

Trader Joe's Freeze Dried Strawberries
Other freeze dried fruits are also easy healthy snacks.

Dole Pineapple Juice
Available in the little cans.  They are a better option than juice boxes, they're healthier and the kids always love it.

Cheese Cubes with Grapes or Apples
Cheese and Crackers are also a good choice.

Low-fat String Cheese
A no fail, quick and easy snack.

Mott's Apple Slices
Now available in individual packets perfect for the backpack.
