Kayak to Cockenoe
Monday, August 08, 2011

Have you ever taken a trip out to Cockenoe Island, a small wildlife sanctuary in the Sound? Suzy hasn’t either. Luckily for all of us, the Westport Historical Society has organized a kayak adventure out to this Westport annex. Cockenoe is known for its trails, crabbing, shell fishing and bird watching, and is a beautiful spot for picnicking. The Town of Westport also allows limited overnight camping on the island with advance approval.
Resident historian, Allen Raymond, will guide the 2 ½ hour tour, and share insights and personal memories of this local natural treasure. Intermediate level kayak ability is required. Light refreshments will be provided by Christy’s Country Store.
Spots are limited, so reserve yours in advance by calling (203) 222-1424. Kayak rentals are available for a separate fee at Longshore Sailing School. Call (203) 226-4646 to find out more about kayak rentals. Details are here.
