Vacation Week Fun

Do you have your holiday week covered? Suzy’s got the scoop on the fun happening around town to make your vacation week feel just a little more like a vacation for you and your kids.

Earthplace—The nature buffs at Earthplace have a week’s worth of fun lined up for children of all ages, and none of it involves the latest version of Angry Birds. Kids will learn about animal tracking and head out onto the trails to look for tracks and other animal evidence. Earthplace naturalists will help kids make their own pinecone bird feeders to take home to observe nature in their own back yards. Stories, trail explorations and even a sing-a-long with family fun group, The Murthas are all on the schedule.

Details are on the Earthplace website. And most activities are included with regular admission. If you’re a member, it’s all free.

Stepping Stones Children’s Museum—Stepping Stones has fun in spades in store for the younger set. Kids can join The Beatles Dance Party and learn how to do the Twist, the Pony, the Swim and the Mashed Potato. They’ll learn about the British Christmas Cracker tradition and get the New Year off with a bang. And mini history buffs will be able to create their own scale model of Stonehenge.

Some events require pre-registration and materials fees. Details, dates and times are all on the Stepping Stones website http://www.steppingstonesmuseum.org/.

Mad Hats at the Fairfield Library—Girls and their moms are invited to a Mad Tea Party at the Fairfield Public Library, Wednesday, Dec. 28. Girls in grades K-5 are invited to wear their frilliest, most favorite dresses and white gloves to sip tea and sample crumpets (and cookies!). Everyone should bring a hat to decorate.

Pre-registration is required. Details, including how to register, are on the library’s website.
