This Thursday, shop at Barnes and Noble in Westport and your purchases will help support the Historical Societies of Westport, Wilton, Weston and Fairfield.
The Historical Societies have come together to share their talented staff, volunteers, and junior docents to offer a wonderful program of historical related activities and presentations that will engage people of all ages.
When: Thursday, June 5th, 4pm to 8pm.
The following program is planned at the Barnes & Noble Book Fair:
•Accomplished actress and singer Dorothy Bryce will read a local tale called "The Little Minuteman" written by Henry Paine in 1924 about one young boy's heroism (portrayed by Teddy Gibson) to save his father during the American Revolution. (4:15 - 4:45pm)
•Discover toys that were made in the Weston Toy Factory as told by Sara Gruen (5pm- 5:30pm)
•Hear children's author Alan Katz read a charming tale called Julie in 1910 about the plight of the American chestnut trees. (5:30- 6pm)
•Learn about Slavery in Central Fairfield County by listening to historian Dan Cruson talk about a subject he knows well.(6 – 6:30pm)
•Period costumed docents will facilitate wonderful hands-on crafts including wool carting, tin punch and more. (4 - 8pm)
•A portrayal of an American Marine during the American Revolution by Fairfield Historical Society's own Walter Matis. (6:45 - 7:15pm)
•Door prizes, resource information and lots of historical fun!
