Flu, Be Gone!

With all the talk of flu season being especially virulent this year, make sure you get vaccinated at a local clinic.

Here's the skinny:
Seasonal Flu vaccine will be available and in abundance so people can get vaccinated. H1N1 vaccine will be available in very limited amounts initially and only to select target groups. Also, it is expected that H1N1 Flu and Seasonal Flu will co-circulate this coming season which can potentially cause some mutation of the viruses.

It makes sense to get the seasonal flu vaccine as soon as it is available. See the link below for WWHD Seasonal Flu Clinics, open to all over 18 years old.

The flu clinic schedule:
Saturday, Sept. 26
Westport Weston Health District
180 Bayberry Lane, Westport
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 29
Weston Library
Norfield Road, Weston
9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 6
Westport Library
20 Jesup Road, Westport
9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 7
Westport Senior Center
23 Imperial Avenue, Westport
5 – 8 p.m.

The above clinics are open to anyone 18 years of age or older wishing to be vaccinated. There are no residency restrictions and no appointments are necessary. The cost of the vaccine is $32 cash.

There is no cost to Medicare Part B participants.  Medicare B participants must bring their Medicare cards to the clinic for billing purposes.

The Health District will provide Fluarix vaccine manufactured by Novartis. This year's vaccine contains the A/Brisbane (H1N1)-like, A/Brisbane (H3N2)-like, and B/Brisbane (2008-like antigens) strains, which are thought to most likely occur in the United States this winter.

REMEMBER:
Wear clothing with loose sleeves or short sleeves.

Check with your doctor if you have a serious egg, chicken, or thimerosal allergy, may be pregnant, are ill with fever, or have/had Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

No one will be refused vaccination due to inability to pay.
