Buzz of the Week: Meet Dr. Loren M. Hager

As the weather finally starts to get nice its time to spend more time in the garden getting those flower beds blooming and veggies thriving. Dr Loren Hager of Hager Health Chiropractic & Yoga offers some helpful tips for keeping healthy and safe while gardening and doing yard work  this season.

•Stretch first. Stretch before you garden and take frequent breaks to stretch out to counteract all the crouching and bending.

•Wear sun protection. It's easy to get a burn, especially before it gets warm. Wear a hat and sunblock.

•Wear tick protection. CT is tick territory and the population is high this year. Find a good, natural tick repellent and use it!

•Avoid heavy chemicals in the garden. There are plenty of natural ways to fertilize and protect your garden with out using toxic chemicals.  Find something that works with your plants and go with it.

•Drink water. Being outside in the heat can dehydrate you. Also while digging in the dirt, you can stir up all sorts of things that you will inhale. Drinking extra water will help flush that out of your system. (It might not be a bad idea to wear a mask or bandana around your nose and mouth to reduce what you inhale.)

•Bodies like veggies. So, remember to eat what you grow.

•Practice yoga. Yoga can help stretch out and strengthen those sore muscles.

•Get Adjusted! When you forget to stretch, forget to lift that heavy bag of fertilizer with your legs, or if other body problems pop up from your hobby (or chore) come get evaluated and treated.
