Become an Apprentice

A new Apprentice Farmer program is being developed at Ambler Farm this summer for students entering grades 8 through 10 in Fall 2012. Students will meet at Ambler Farm each morning and start the day by working with the farm's animals. They will then work in the production gardens alongside Ambler Farm’s agricultural director under the guidance of Jim Hunter, the Wilton High School teacher who founded, created and oversees the Wilton High School Organic Garden. On Wednesday of each week, the apprentice students will board a bus to work at Millstone Farm, another Wilton organic treasure that not only focuses on produce but also on the raising of healthy animals for food. On Friday, they'll travel to Muscoot Farm to take in a bit of farm history as well as visit their animals. This program is designed to immerse the kids in organic farming and help them understand the importance of how we raise our food. This is a highly interactive program that provides kids with an opportunity to get involved in exciting farm activities.
