Earth Day at the Zoo

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will celebrate the 38th annual Earth Day with a weekend environmental extravaganza from 12 to 3 p.m. on both April 19 and April 20.
Enjoy "Green Storytime," earth-friendly crafts, alternative energy displays (wind, solar), a display showing global climate change and its effect on wildlife, a "What's in Your Backyard" scavenger hunt, tattoos, and wildflower seed give-aways. Environmentally friendly vendors will be on hand with everything from green cleaning products to recycled fashion accessories to better lawn care for you and wildlife.
While supplies last, receive a Greater Bridgeport Transit "flowering" bus pass to ride the bus for free all day on Earth Day, April 22; then, plant the seed-filled pass afterward. Saturday at 1 p.m,. join the "Environmental Hootenanny" with musical performers Tom Callinan and Ann Shapiro. Learn what you can do to make the planet a healthier place for you and your family.
Bring your old sneakers for Nike's Reuse a Shoe program and your old Cell Phones for our Eco-Cell Recycling program. Vendors and exhibitors include: Seaside Naturals, GG2G, DEP safe boating trailer, CT Fund for the Environment, CT's One Thing, Save the Sound, E magazine, Our Green House, Nike Reuse a shoe, Cell phone recycling, Bridgeport Community Gardens, Alternative energy, Global Climate Change and Wildlife, CT Clean Energy Fund and more!
