Vacation... All We Ever Wanted...
The specter of a week-long winter break without a Caribbean destination can strike fear into the hearts of many mothers.  But take heart, galpals!  Suzy's got your back with a long list of vacation week activities for all ages.  And they're all right here in your own backyard.

The hot spots for the week are Stepping Stones Museum, the Westport Historical Society and Earthplace.

Stepping Stones Museum is offering a week packed with funky, Carnivale-themed activities.  They're also offering extended hours, opening Monday – Friday, from 10 am to 5 pm each day.  Admission is $9.00, for children and adults.  Children under age one admitted free.  Visit www.steppingstonesmuseum.org or call 203-899-0606 for more information.

Monday, February 16: Masquerade Monday.  Come in your favorite costume or make one on the spot.  Event happens at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.  Additional materials fee, $3.00.

Tuesday, February 17: Magical Masks.  Make your own animal mask or headband to celebrate Carnivale.  Event happens at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.  Additional materials fee, $3.00.

Wednesday, February 18: Tons of Tales.  Special story times featuring international folktales.  Stories at 1pm and 3 pm.  This is in addition to the weekly Toddler Tales series, a toddler story time offered at 9:45 am, 10:15 am and in Spanish at 10:45 am.

Thursday, February 19: Trinidad Music & Dance.  Dance the limbo, learn about Calypso, and groove to the sound of steel drums.  It'll be just like that Caribbean vacation except you won't have to worry about a sunburn.  Dance times at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

Friday, February 20: Storybook Theater: Kallaloo.  Don't miss this interactive production of the Caribbean "Stone Soup."  Show times at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

Saturday, February 21: Carnival Trio Musical Performance.  This band is the real island deal, straight from Trinidad.  Come ready to sing, dance and learn about Caribbean culture, including a lesson in how those sweet sounding steel drums are made.

The Westport Historical Society is hosting February Fun Days, a program geared toward kids in grades 1-4.  It's packed with crafts, games, science, drama, cooking and more.  All materials and snacks will be provided, but kids should bring their own bag lunches.

Program runs from Monday, February 16 through Wednesday, February 18, 10 am to 3 pm each day.  The fee is $55.00 ($50.00 for members).  Registration is required.  Please visit www.westporthistory.org or call 203-222-1424 for more information. westporthistory.org

Earthplace has a week of nature and adventure plotted out for your explorers!  Each class includes a trail trek, a live animal experience, art, science and more!  These drop-off programs are geared for pre-K through grade 1 and run from Monday, February 16 through Friday, February 20.  Class times and registration fees vary depending on the age of the child.  Visit www.earthplace.org or call 203-227-7253 for more information.

Monday, February 16: Fun Science.  Your kids will explore their inner-Einsteins through simple but spectacular science experiments.

Tuesday, February 17: Tracks and Signs.  This is the perfect program for any animal enthusiast.  Kids will learn about the signs and trails different animals leave and explore the Earthplace sanctuary for evidence of animal activity.

Wednesday, February 18: Migration.  Explore the habits and habitats of animals that migrate to Connecticut for the winter.

Thursday, February 19: Forest.  Today's program offers and exploration of the forest, its secrets and all its inhabitants.

Friday, February 20:  Signs of Winter.  Snow is just the tip of the iceberg.  Come explore the varied and unexpected evidence of winter's chill in the forest.
