Earth Week At The Woodcock Nature Center

On April 22nd, Earth Day will celebrate its 39th anniversary. The Woodcock Nature Center will host its first annual "Earth Week," a week long program of nature-specific events that will run during the week of April 20th – April 26th. There are tons of great family friendly events to choose from. If you haven't been here before, check out the website...they offer preschool, camp, walking trails, birthday parties and obviously some great events!
Monday, April 20
Twilight Canoeing with Families, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Families can explore the nature center pond at sunset by canoe and watch as nature comes alive on the water at night. S'mores will be served by the Outdoor Pavilion fireplace. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is per family $12.00 for members, $15.00 for non-members
Tuesday, April 21
Meet the Natives Animal Program, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00p.m., Ever wonder what creatures live at the Woodcock Nature Center? Come meet the animals. Appropriate for ages 4 and up. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.
Nature Photography Workshop with Daryl Hawk, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., A one-of-kind photography workshop for children with acclaimed documentary photographer and Wilton resident, Daryl Hawk. Students will learn to hone their photographic "eye" by looking outside in nature for subject matter, lighting and composition. Appropriate for children aged 9 – 17 years. Space is limited to 25 children. Advance registration is required. Cost is $30 for members, $35.00 for non-members.

Wednesday, April 22
Paper Making, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., A hands-on workshop with a staff naturalist teaches basic paper making techniques with materials from nature. Appropriate for ages 4 and up. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.
Tree Hike, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Celebrate Earth Day with a walk in the woods! Staff naturalists will guide groups along nature center trails to identify various tree species. Fun for all ages. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.
Thursday, April 23
Spring Gardening Seminar, 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m., Special spring gardening workshop.. Adults only. Space is limited. Registration is suggested.
Geocaching & Letterboxing, 4:00 p.m.- 5:30 p.m., Interactive GPS outdoor treasure hunt. Participants find their way to "treasure" boxes along nature center trails with GPS coordinates. Fun for all ages. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.
Evening Owl Prowl, 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Larry Flynn, Owl expert and Master Wildlife Conservationist for the Connecticut DEP Division of Wildlife, will lead groups on the hunt to look for and hear owls. Participants must be absolutely quiet so we ask that infants and toddlers be left at home. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.

Friday, April 24
Fireside Stories, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00p.m., Sit by the Outdoor Pavilion fireplace to hear the story Stellaluna. Appropriate for ages 4 and up. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is $5.00 for members, $7.00 for non-members.
Evening Camp Out, 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. Families will enjoy night hikes, a raft trip out onto the pond and s'mores by the fire. Space is limited. Registration is suggested. Cost is per family $12.00 for members, $15.00 for non-members.
Saturday, April 25
"An Evening Under the Stars", Celebrate "Earth Week" with neighbors and friends at a benefit wine and organic beer tasting under the stars and by the Outdoor Pavilion fireplace. The event will feature acclaimed documentary photographer and Wilton resident, Daryl Hawk's "Call of the Wild" slide show and commentary.
Sunday, April 26
"Where The Wild Things Run" 5K Race & Kids Fun Run. 5K at 9:00 a.m with the Kids Fun Run to follow. Scenic North Wilton's 5K course is the perfect way to end Woodcock's "Earth Week" celebration. Cost for Fun Run is $10.00, cost for 5K is $20.00. Race shirt included. To register download the registration form and mail it to:
