A Day at the Orchard
Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Nothing better this time of the year than a field trip to a local apple orchard to go pickin'. Here are two of Suzy's favorite spots:
Blue Jay Orchards lets you pick your own apples September thru early November. 10 AM - 5 PM. Hayrides to the Pumpkin Patch on October weekends, 10 AM - 4:30 PM. Pies from the Orchards' bakery, sweet cider, cider donuts, local honey are also on sale.
Be sure to check out the open bee hive at the back of the shop. The kids love trying to find the queen bee.

Silverman's Farm in Easton is a quick fix. Take a tractor ride to the orchard -- the kids' favorite part of the trip -- and pick your own apples. On weekends, Silverman's is mobbed so get there early. Five-acre animal park for the wee ones. Try 17 varieties of Silverman's fresh baked pies. If you're lucky the cider donuts will still be warm. They are by far the best around!
