Not Here But Near
Isabelle et Vincent

Head north to Isabelle et Vincent, a French patisserie or bakery, new to the eastern side of Fairfield.
After operating a prominent French bakery and patisserie in Strasbourg, France for 18 years, Isabelle and Vincent Koenig made an enormous move with their 2 young children and a dream, hoping to recreate their award winning bakery and chocolatier here in the US.
Suzy stopped in a couple of days after the impressive oak doors opened and entered a European bakery, something Fairfield has never quite seen -- until now. While the shelves were not yet completely filled, our taste testers were delighted with what they tried. The multi-grain pain is an update of the conventional French loaf (and they have that, too.) It was melt in our mouth, nutty, healthy. Yes, we ate the entire loaf on the car ride home. The kids tried the "pain au chocolat" or chocolate croissant. It was delightful. The conventional croissant was also satisfying, although Suzy's husband wanted it to be a bit bigger. (Typical, over-served American!). There are row after row of eclairs that look fantastic and the Tiramisu might just be the best dessert we ever tasted. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable. We plan to head back for a taste of their espresso drinks which we imagine are quite authentic with a side of either their handmade chocolates or ice cream, all of course made from scratch on the premises.
Make your next meal special by including bread or desserts from Isabelle et Vincent. And next time, you ask a hostess what you should bring, suggest a loaf of bread. You'll be the toast of the party!
Let's hope they sell enough pastries to become a Fairfield tradition.
