Here's what galpal Amanda penned about Fairfield's newest addition to the restaurant scene

Last Saturday night, my husband and I decided to stop into 55 Degrees in downtown Fairfield for a glass of wine. We took a seat at their large, wood bar and had a look around.

The bar area is spacious and can comfortably handle a crowd. The dining room has a Tuscan vibe (I am not familiar with the look under prior ownership) and tables are well-spaced.

As for the wine list, the wines-by-the glass selection is robust and priced fairly and the bottled wine list is extensive.

We sat at the bar, noshed on some olives, chatted with the friendly bartender and checked out the menu. We loved what we saw, thinking we'd be up for just about any dish on the menu. So we decided to stay - and enjoyed a delicious dinner.
We dined outside on their large patio and noted the chairs were very comfortable out there.
The food menu is Italian and most certainly has flair. A few dishes have unusual pairings - yet not so unusual you'd be reluctant to take the "risk".

For appetizers, we had an excellent grilled calamari, white beans, and cherry tomato dish ($9) and a yummy [and very pretty] oyster appetizer dish served with avocado cream, huge pink and green radish discs, and grapefruit slices ($12).
For our main course we had two great pasta dishes. One was tagliatelle pasta, broccoli rabe, fennel sausage and herbed ricotta ($19). The second was a lobster papperdelle, charred cauliflower, golden raisins, pine nuts and spicy sausage ($23). The detail in food prep was readily apparent and the presentation was thoughtful.
Sadly, we could not make room for dessert, but based on the menu had every reason to believe we would've been pleased there too.

As for the service, our waiter was enthusiastic and attentive. There was a lag between the serving of the appetizer and main course, but we chalked it up as an opening-weekend kink that will hopefully be ironed out.

We will definitely return and recommend it as a welcome addition to the downtown Fairfield restaurant scene.
