Farmers’ Markets Open for the Season
Lots of farmers’ markets in our area are ramping up for the season, and Suzy can hardly wait for all the freshness the markets will bring. From big markets to small markets, raw foods to prepared foods, organic farmers to farm-to-table chefs Fairfield County farmers’ markets have it all.

Here’s Suzy’s Gal Pal Guide to some of the best farmers’ markets in our backyard:

Darien
The Darien Farmers’ Market has always been a crowd pleaser, winning “Best of the Gold Coast” awards several years in a row. The market opened Wednesday, May 9 and will open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Christmas. The Darien Farmers’ Market is located in the municipal parking lot, off Mechanic St., behind the firehouse on Boston Post Road, across from Goodwives shopping center in Darien.


FairfieldFairfield has three farmers’ markets, for three times the good, green fun. The Greenfield Hill Market kicks off in June at 75 Hillside Road. You can find this market every Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of October.

You can also find a Saturday farmers’ market in the Brick Walk in downtown Fairfield. The Brick Walk Farmers’ Market runs from 9 a.m. to noon from June to October.

And, finally, the Fairfield Farmers’ Market at the Greenfield Hill Grange at 1873 Hillside Road, will open Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Produce, dairy and honey are just a few of the local treasures you’ll find here.


GeorgetownThe Georgetown Farmers’ Market opens Sunday, May 29 at 4 Old Mill Road in Georgetown. You’ll find more than one dozen vendors there every Sunday through October. Fresh, local produce, dairy, meat and much more will all be available.


Greenwich
Shop any of the three Greenwich Farmers’ Markets for a variety of local treats. The Greenwich Farmers’ Market happens Saturdays beginning in May, in the commuter lot off of exit 3 on I-95. This is a big market with lots of vendors from across the area. Find this market open for business Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November.

The Cos Cob Farmers’ Market kicks off its season Tuesday, May 17 at the Greenwich Historical Society 39 Strickland Road in Cos Cob. This market opens on Fridays as well, and is open for business from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Tuesdays and Fridays.

There’s also the Old Greenwich Farmers’ Market, features all the farmers’ market fare you’d expect, along with live music and children’s activities. This Wednesday market kicks off in July at 285 Soundbeach Avenue, in the Old Greenwich School parking lot from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.


New CanaanThe New Canaan Farmers’ Market opened Saturday, May 12 in the Old Center School parking lot at the corner of South Avenue and Maple Street in New Canaan. Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can plenty of local and delicious eats through November.


Norwalk
You can find just about any local item you’re looking for between the four farmers’ markets in Norwalk. The Norwalk Farmers’ Market at Fodor Farm kicks off Friday, July 10 from noon to 5 p.m.

The Norwalk Cavalry Baptist Church Farmers’ Market opens Mondays in June from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 21 Concord Street.

The Norwalk Health Department Farmers’ Market gets underway Wednesdays in July from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 137 East Avenue, and runs through October.

And the Rowayton Farmers’ Market features nearly two dozen vendors, plus music and kids activities. This market opens at its summer home in Pickney Park, Fridays in June from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.


Westport
The Westport Farmers’ Market is a Westport institution. Vendors offer everything from organic produce, meats, dairy, fresh seafood, and baked goods. And each week you’ll find a local chef hosting a demo or tasting for guests. Prepared food vendors are also there weekly, in case all that shopping makes you hungry. The Westport Farmers’ Market runs Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 24. Find the fun in the Imperial Avenue parking lot, adjacent to the Westport Young Women’s League.
