Michele's Pies
When you win the National Pie Contest, you know you can bake.

But can you run a successful business?

Michele Albano of Westport is determined to prove she can.

Albano's chocolate bourbon pecan pie took the blue ribbon last spring and convinced her to open the eponymous Michele's Pies on the Norwalk/Wilton border in late January.

The gourmet pie shop has a crazy good assortment of her concoctions in small ($6-8)  -- perfect to snack on in the store accompanied by a cappuccino -- and large pies ($20-26). She also has unveiled scrumptious quiches and meat pies -- Chicken Pot and Australian Beef -- for takeout and heat up for a healthy, old-fashioned dinner.

Suzy tried the award-winning pie (delectable...). It's just sweet enough and gifts a "taste-lift" to an old holiday favorite. Our early favorite is the blueberry blackberry crumb. The crumb is matched by the fresh fruit filling.  Buy the bigger size pies to get a true sense of taste. (We intend to buy an assortment of the small size to spice up the dessert table at our next party!)

Michele began her career selling pies out of her Killington, Vermont ski condo before returning to her hometown to start a more traditional business.

Suzy's Tip:  Try the "Pie-of-the-Month Club" for a relatives and friends living locally.  Just give Michele a call two days before you pick up the pie and you can deliver homespun goodness every month to a loved one.  ($115 for 6 months, $235 for a year).
