Meet Sid
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Generally Suzy prefers hands-on learning but is really excited about The Jim Henson Company's first series for PBS Kids, Sid the Science Kid, which premieres on September 1st. The series features a practical in-school science curriculum, uses music and humor to celebrate children's natural curiosity about science in everyday life. The energetic and inquisitive Sid starts each episode with a new question ("Why are my shoes shrinking?" "Why do bananas get mushy?") and embarks on a fun-filled day of finding answers with the help of family and friends.

They also have an interactive website that is designed to further develop children's natural wonder and help caregivers to build a strong foundation for early science exploration. Sid and his school friends host SID THE SCIENCE KID's Web site where they greet visitors, prompt them to explore and make the site feel like a personal play date with Sid and his friends.
When fully launched this Labor Day, the Web site will include three discovery zones: the Super Fab Lab at Sid's school, the playground and Sid's family kitchen. Each zone will offer four science games that together encompass all of the series' curricular themes. The site also features a child-friendly video player that lets kids view show clips, including songs and real-world investigations as well as a printable Fun Book with coloring pages and other engaging offline activities designed to inspire children to practice and internalize scientific discovery.
In the meantime, get started on some exploration of your own at ShopPBS, where coupon code PBS222 nets you 20 percent off through September 30.
